Hiking Trails around Lake Country offer something for every type of hiker. Volcano Mountain – not the official name – is located just south of Winfield and offers a fantastic view of Duck Lake, Kelowna International Airport and surrounding the Lake Country.

This was a great hike, approx 50 minutes to the top with snow shoes for 2/3 of the way. Finally this is off my bucket list. Within the next 2 weeks I will go back in but from the west.
Questions…leave a comment. There was an elevation gain of 270m with short but fairly steep sections, once the snow disappears I plan to cruise all over in there.

I’ve always wanted to hike up that mountain. Where is the trailhead and do I need to seek permission? If you go straight up from Hwy 97, you have fences to deal with/consider.

I have found a “volcanic ash” deposit on south-east side of Knox mountain and would show interested parties where it is? Dr Murray Reed says it is 50 million years old.. it is under 50-60 feet of basalt rock. most interesting.. contact me at gosolr@live.ca
“Volcanic Ash”?? ain’t nothing new in that, its all over the place up there. Thats like saying you found sand on a beach.
Not many folks young or elder know that? Nor do they know what it looks like, feels like and how easily accesable some sites R.. i am not gps friendly but i want to do this hike but the area by quail ridge access is all closed with fences and no trespassing signs. is there a different access not involving crossing private land

Hi tom, the best place to start is park on quail cresent . you will see a park, enter park then you will see a trail to the right that doubles back on itself , follow that to a fence. I did hop the fence to get up to the top. no where at that time did I see any trespassing signs.

I did this hike about a year ago. It’s not very public property friendly unfortunately. Had to cross several property lines and go under/over several fences. Doesn’t make for a very pleasurable hike when you are constantly worried about some mean old guy yelling at you to get off his property or whatever.
Looks to be more sparse coming in from the east though. I would suggest try from there. Not sure where the access would be. Somewhere in behind that Jammery restaurant I think.

JUST A FRIENDLY NOTE TO ANYONE CONSIDERING GOING FOR A HIKE AT BERTRAM CREEK REGIONAL PARK. THE TICKS ARE OUT IN FULL FORCE. LUCKILY I NOTICED THEM ON MY JEANS BEFORE I GOT INTO MY CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GET RID OF MOST OF THEM BUT STLL ENDED UP WITH ONE ON MY BARE BACK AND ONE ON MY STOMACH. THEY SEEM MORE FREAKY TO ME THAN BEARS AND RATTLESNAKES.
