Rex Virtue is an outdoor adventurer in British Columbia. He can be found cutting across country where no man has made a trail or re-discovering abandoned mines like the one found on this GPS track, Rex doesn’t let cold, damp, or heat keep him from new discoveries. He was one of the first explorers hitting the trails on Terrace Mountain after it was blackened by wild fire in summer 2009.
The GPS track below takes you for an adventure to the top of Terrace Mountain and circles around it with a side trip to Blue Hawk Mine on Blue Grouse Mountain near Kelowna. The track begins on Beaver Lake Main Forest Service Road near Bear Creek Provincial Park on Okanagan Lake.
For many more details on the min see this post: https://tracksandtrails.ca/2009/04/wonders-await-in-blue-hawk-mine-abandoned-and-dangerous/
Do you think theres any good sking up on Terrace? i know its about the same height as silverstar but is it gladed and open since the fire or to thick, or to many cliff hazzards? i would love to go up there in the winter and do some touring but i wanna know if it would be worth it first. please get back to me if you have any more details about it.
Thanks alot, Scott Irvine.
when i was there in Dec or Jan, there was only snow on the top knolly rock part and just below. If there was a huge dump of snow to cover all the stumps and rocks, then you might be able to find a sweet line. I think snowshoes would be better for a winter backcountry type adventure up there. There are snowmobile trails for sure too.
