Site Description:Interpretive forest adjacent to the City of Cranbrook. Recreation or, interpretive trail network with day use facilities and refer to the Cranbrook Community Forest brochure, available at the Cranbrook office.

Driving Directions: The main vehicle entrance to the Sylvan Lake area is adjacent to the South East Fire Centre Base at the north end of Cranbrook. Turn off the highway onto 30th Ave. N. and then immediately left onto the business frontage road. The most folksy walking entrance can be found near the Cranbrook Golf Course. Continue past the golf course on 2nd St. S. Just beyond Edgewood Dr. turn left into the gravel parking area. This gate is closed year round. How To Light A Fire Without Matches

Step 1.

Fluff the fatwood by scraping the stick with the edge of your striker. If a hunting knife is available, use the BACK of the blade to fluff.

Step 2.

Practice getting a spark to land on the pile of fluffed fatwood by using your ferro rod and the edge of your striker.

Step 3.

Direct the sparks to the top of the pile of fluffed fatwood by using your QUICK-FIRE and the edge of the Striker. (Or use the back of a blade)
