Wilderness Redefined

Part of making the wilderness accessible is making sure that people are able to respond to emergency situations when they venture out. So I’ve written a guide to the 10 Essentials which covers all the vital items, like navigation tools and a first aid kit, that you might need in the backcountry. The Essentials guide has been designed to help provide the best tools you might need to respond to an emergency situation.

Spending time in the great outdoors is of vital importance for our general health and well-being. I used to feel that I probably sounded like a broken record banging on how we should all try to get more outside.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, however, a lot of people have developed a greater appreciation for the wilderness now than they had before. It’s great to see so many new outdoor recreationists enjoying socially distant activities like hiking and wild swimming.

Unfortunately, the downside of newbie adventurers is that they sometimes are unfamiliar with what is considered correct and safe practices in the great outdoors. This can sometimes lead to dangerous situations.

This was part of the reason why I started my blog WildernessRedefined.com. I write posts that aim to make the great outdoors accessible to all by providing information and expert tips for keeping safe and having fun in the backcountry.

I also offer seven additional extras to update the 10 Essentials that will improve your response to an emergency, including a power pack battery for charging electronic devices – something that would have been alien to the original authors of the 10 Essentials half a century ago!

So check out the guide for all the must-haves for your backpack and get out into the great outdoors! Be sure you have a safe (and enjoyable!) trip in the wilderness.
