Kettle Valley Railway – KVR – Grand Opening (re-opening)

Wow – after 5 years of not being able to hike the Myra Canyon and visit the Kettle Valley Trestles due to the fact that they were burned in the Okanagan Mountain Park Fire – they will be open to public again!

I almost considered cancelling my backpacking trip to be there! Here is an exert from

Myra Canyon Trestle Restoration Societ – including free transportation up to the trestles! Be sure to register so they can plan adequately.

How to Get to Myra Canyon
You have your choice of taking a free bus ride up to Myra Canyon from the main entrance to Okanagan College on KLO Road in Kelowna or you can drive up. The bus schedule is outlined below. If you plan to drive up, take KLO Road to McCulloch Road, follow McCulloch Road past Gallaghers Canyon Golf Course, until you reach Myra Forest Service Road. It is marked with signs. Follow that road 8 ½ kms to the rail bed and the Myra parking area. Avid cyclists may wish to access the festivities from the June Springs entrance on the west side of the Canyon.

  1. Are we able to take our bikes on the bus? Is there a website where we can post a notice for other people who want to bike parts of the kettle valley around Kelowna and want to share transportation costs to hire a shuttle service? Thx

  2. The bus does not go up on a regular basis. Monashee Adventure Tours is located in Kelowna and would be a great company to contact or check out at this their website http://www.monasheeadventuretours.com/tours.html#bike for a shuttle up to the Trestles.

You might also want to check out http://www.clubtread.com as it is the best British Columbia website that I have seen for hikers to get together with other like minded people. http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/active.asp?filter=hikeonly

I hope you can post back on this thread if you get something going! 🙂
