Trans Canada Trail
The worlds longest thru hike begins at Mile Zero located outside the Railway Coastal Museum in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Parts of the Trans Canada Trail run along existing trails such as the Rideau Trail and Voyageur Hiking Trail, or along the trail system of parks such as Gatineau Park and the historic Kettle Valley Railway in British Columbia.
The main section runs along the southern areas of Canada connecting most of Canada’s major cities and most populous areas. There is also a long northern arm which runs through Alberta to Edmonton and then up through northern British Columbia to the Yukon which means the TCT connect 3 oceans!
The trail is a multi-use trail, and depending on the section may allow hikers, bicyclists, cross country skiers, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobilers. The quality, use and maintenance of the trails is quite different in any given section of the TCT.
